Why did you choose to study your course at the University of Birmingham?

I chose the University of Birmingham for its distinguished reputation in sports physiotherapy and its outstanding commitment to excellence. In particular, the university's involvement in hosting events like the Commonwealth Games and the IBSA World Blind Games, which I aspired to be a part of as a member of the rehabilitation team, was a compelling factor. Additionally, a senior colleague who completed the same course spoke highly of their experience and the significant knowledge enhancement gained. Birmingham's membership in the Russell Group further reinforced my decision, solidifying its reputation as an institution of academic distinction.

What have been the highlights of the course?

The highlights of the course for me have included engaging guest lecturers, the invaluable experience gained at St. George's Park, my active participation as a student representative, and the opportunity to develop and refine my leadership skills.

What have been the greatest challenges throughout your course so far?

Undoubtedly, the most significant challenge I encountered during my course was the adverse weather conditions, particularly in the winter months. The harsh weather at times proved to be quite stressful and had a noticeable impact on my overall well-being.

What is your research project about, and what has it involved?

My research project focuses on "Trends in exercise prescription and technology use to support exercise self-management in chronic low back pain: A national survey of UK Chartered Physiotherapists." I have had the privilege of working under the guidance and mentorship of Janet, an experienced mentor. Throughout this project, I have gained valuable insights and expanded my knowledge significantly.

How do you think doing a research project has benefited you/will benefit you in the future?

Engaging in a research project has equipped me with critical research and analytical skills, enhancing my ability to critically evaluate evidence and contribute to evidence-based practice. These skills are invaluable for my future career in sports physiotherapy.

What key aspects of your experience at the University of Birmingham would you highlight to students thinking about coming to do the same course?

During my time at the University of Birmingham, I have been particularly impressed by the course's emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach to sports medicine. The blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, along with exposure to cutting-edge research, has been invaluable. The dedicated faculty's support and the vibrant sports community on campus create a unique learning environment. That would be something for the upcoming students to look forward to.

What are your ambitions for the future? Do you have specific career plans? How has the exercise and sports medicine (football) MSc course helped with this?

My ambitions for the future are centred around becoming a highly skilled MSK and sports medicine practitioner. The Exercise and Sports Medicine (Football) MSc course at Birmingham has been instrumental in sharpening my MSK diagnostic and treatment skills. This has opened doors for me to contribute effectively to sports teams and consider a rewarding career path within the NHS. I'm enthusiastic about applying my knowledge and skills to enhance the well-being of athletes and individuals alike.
