Nafsika’s research interests are in the Economics of Obesity and the use of health economics methods to support a systems approach to obesity policy. She is particularly interested in the application of economic evaluation and decision-analytic modelling to direct decision making in the realm of obesity.

Nafsika joined the Centre for Economics of Obesity led by Professor Emma Frew in 2021, where she is involved in research to tackle the wider determinants of disease including the impact of green and blue space and transport.

Biography

Nafsika is a Research Associate in Health Economics at the Institute of Applied Health Research.

Nafsika holds a BSc in Economics from University of Thessaly, Greece (2008-2012) and a MPH from Lund University, Sweden (2016-2018). She joined the Health Economics Department, Lund University in 2017 as a Research Assistant where she undertook reviews of economic evidence and supported research projects with econometric analysis. Nafsika joined the Health Economics Unit, University of Birmingham in 2018.

Nafsika has been involved in various research projects on the areas of social care, public health, clinical trials and recently obesity. In 2020 she was awarded a NIHR pre-doctoral Fellowship to prepare for the next career level to study for a PhD. She is currently doing research on investment in blue spaces for promoting physical activity and improving population health and wellbeing.
