Biography

Patricia joined the University of Birmingham in 2021 as a senior researcher in the West Midlands Applied Research Collaboration (ARC).  She had previously worked at the University in Primary Care Clinical Sciences before moving to Warwick Medical School in 2017 following a TUPE transfer.  She leads a number of projects on the Acute care interfaces theme of the West Midlands ARC and is particularly interested in the implementation of point-of-care ultrasound.  She is the Chief Investigator for the NIHR funded study ‘The patient path to a diagnosis of atrial fibrillation: a qualitative study in primary care’ and is a co-investigator on several studies in primary care and population health.

At Warwick, she was co-investigator and lead researcher on a NIHR Research for Patient Benefit grant for a study that externally validated a prognostic prediction model for patients with atrial fibrillation using primary care electronic health records.  She is a co-investigator and the PPIE lead on the Warwick-led £1.4M NIHR Invention for Innovation grant for a randomised controlled trial of case finding of obstructive sleep apnoea in primary care using a novel device.

In her previous role at the University of Birmingham, Patricia led the UK component of the global longitudinal atrial fibrillation registry GARFIELD-AF.  She was co-investigator and lead researcher for an observational cohort study that determined, for the first time, the incidence of venous thromboembolism in UK care homes.

Patricia has also held research roles at Birmingham City University, Kings College London, Queen Mary University of London, and Imperial College London.
