Dr Viktoria Eleftheriadou is a Consultant Dermatologist at Walsall Healthcare & The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trusts.

Her research interests include vitiligo and skin pigmentary disorders, evidence-based dermatology, trials methodology, outcome measures and qualitative research. She was awarded her PhD on vitiligo in 2013, which was conducted at the Centre of Evidence Based Dermatology, UoN and funded by the NIHR.

She is the lead author of recently updated national British Association of Dermatologists guidelines for the management of vitiligo 2021. Currently, she is working on several projects including observational study and registry for vitiligo patients and a clinical trial on the effectiveness of psychological interventions for the management of vitiligo.

She has published over 50 peer reviewed articles and is a Section Editor for the British Journal of Dermatology, one of the top 3 Dermatology journals in the world.

Qualifications

  • PhD (2013) in Clinical dermatology entitled "Setting priorities and reducing uncertainties for the treatment of vitiligo", awarded by the University of Nottingham, UK, completed in June 2013. PhD funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

Research

2020- European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology scholarship to present at the 29th virtual EADV Congress

2019- British Association of Dermatologists/American Academy of Dermatology travel award to present at the 2019 American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting, Washington DC, USA

2017- Travel award from the IPCC (International Pigment Cell Conference) to present at the International Pigment Cell Conference, Denver, USA

2015- Research grant from NIHR to conduct a multi-centre national randomised controlled trial on hand-held phototherapy for vitiligo (Hi-Light trial) (£1,500,000). Co-investigator on grant application.

2013 - successfully completed a PhD in vitiligo (funded by the NIHR). Based on her PhD work, Viktoria and her research team (Centre of Evidence Based Dermatology, UoN) were successful in obtaining a major grant by NIHR (£1,500,000) to conduct a national trial on vitiligo, which was recently published.

Following completion of her PhD, Viktoria worked on several research projects as evidenced by her publications. In particular, she led the following projects:

  • International e-Delphi consensus on core outcomes set in vitiligo which included 101 participants from 24 countries. Consensus on core outcome set for vitiligo was achieved.
  • International Initiative for Outcomes (INFO) for vitiligo: International workshops with patients with vitiligo on repigmentation
  • British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) clinical guidelines on vitiligo.

Viktoria presented her work at numerous national and international meetings and has received an invitation from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) to present her work on outcomes in vitiligo at the AAD Annual Meeting in Washington DC, March 2019.

In recognition of her leadership role in research and in vitiligo, she was invited to write a book chapter on phototherapy and laser treatments for vitiligo (book entitled: Hypopigmentation by E Nicolaidou, C Dessinioti and A Katsambas eds).

Viktoria has over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and is an experienced peer reviewer for major Dermatological journals such as British Journal of Dermatology, Clinical and Experimental Dermatology and Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Finally, Viktoria is a Section Editor (Qualitative and Outcomes Research) for the British Journal of Dermatology. The BJD has an impact factor of 9.3, the highest recognised journal in the specialty.
