Biography

Hello, Marianne here. I am originally from Brazil but have lived in the UK half my life, mostly in London. I have always worked with languages and education, first as a translator and language specialist and then as teacher of English as a Foreign Language and teacher of English for Academic Purposes. As a non-native speaker of English I had to experience the same path of my students which gives me valuable insight and sympathy to the International Student Journey. I like cooking, eating in restaurants, reading and writing on my journal. I’m passionate about being physically healthy – I run, practise yoga, climb and go to the gym.

Teaching

I have been here at the BIA since 2024, teaching on both Pressessional and Foundation programmes. My previous teaching experience includes teaching EAP at the University of Sheffield, Cardiff University and Lancaster University in positions of teaching and leadership. Prior to EAP that I had a long career in EFL as a teacher, senior teacher and Director of Studies.

I am currently teaching B2 and C1 level Foundation groups, while also working on the Assessments teams for our Foundation Course. I also work as a course coordinator on BIA summer presessional programmes.
