I teach on the BIA’s in-sessional programme, also known as the Academic English programme, where I support international students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. My role involves syllabus design, materials development, teaching, and assessment.

Qualifications

MRes Interdisciplinary Study (part-time, ongoing) My research explores the concept of CQ (Cultural Intelligence) among Higher Education students, and how successful intercultural group work may be supported by universities. This research will be informed by a range of academic disciplines, such as linguistics and business. Modules cover both content and research skills.

ILM Level 5 Coach (Institute of Leadership and Management) I am a Level 5 Coach and am keen to build my experience in this area.

Cambridge DELTA The Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, accredited by Cambridge Assessment English, provided a valuable opportunity to develop and refine my skills and knowledge in the field of English-language teaching.

Trinity Cert TESOL  My initial teaching qualification was the Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, accredited by Trinity College London. Equivalent to the Cambridge CELTA, this intensive course provided me with hands-on teaching experience from day one.

BA (Hons) Political Science My time reading Political Science at the University of Birmingham provided me with a solid foundation of analytical and evaluative skills. Study modules covered such topics as political philosophy, international relations, and contemporary issues affecting international security.

Biography

After graduating from UoB with a degree in Political Science, I spent five years working as a clerk in the legal industry, before embarking upon my career in teaching in 2016. I spent the next few years teaching English in a range of contexts and countries, including at a language school in Spain and on a ‘Global English’ programme at a university in Japan. I now teach at UoB where my varied role centres on communication, culture, and coaching.
