Daniel Wintersberger joined Birmingham Business School as a teaching fellow in 2014 and became a lecturer in 2018. Before joining the school, he held teaching posts at Cardiff and Swansea University and worked as a pay and reward specialist with the British Airline Pilots’ Association. 

Daniel's doctoral research (funded by the International Transport Workers’ Federation and supervised by Prof Geraint Harvey - Swansea) examined the impact of the low cost model on Work, Employment and Trade Union Representation in the Indian and Brazilian Civil Aviation Industry. He currently serves as the Brazil lead for the College of Social Sciences and teaches on the MSc International Business, BSc Accounting & Finance, as well as the full time and executive MBA programmes in Birmingham and Singapore.

A human geographer by training, Daniel Wintersberger has held managerial and industrial relations roles in the service occupations and retail trades before undertaking funded research on industrial relations in civil aviation, which formed the foundations of his doctoral research. The project (funded by the International Transport Workers’ Federation - ITF) examined the impact of the low cost model on work, employment and trade union representation in the Indian and Brazilian civil aviation industry following the deregulation of both markets. Findings from Daniel's research were used by the ITF as well as the International Labour Organisation. He has presented his research widely at academic conferences (including the International Labour Process Conference) as well as to trade union and practitioner audiences.

Daniel is currently focusing his attention on the manufacturing sector, working on a FAPESP-funded project (led by Prof Jorge Muniz – UNESP) on tacit knowledge sharing on automotive assembly lines in Brazil.

Daniel is interested to hear from candidates who would like to conduct research into employment relations issues in transport, particularly civil aviation, as well as shop floor perspectives on industry 4.0 implementation in a range of sectors.
