Belinda Zakrzewska is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at Birmingham Business School. Her current interdisciplinary research broadly explores cultural production and colonialism dynamics in the marketplace.

Biography

Belinda Zakrzewska is Polish Peruvian. She was born and raised in Lima while maintaining strong a strong connection to her father's native Poland despite the geographical distance. She holds a PhD in Management from the University of Sussex Business School, where she also began her academic career as an Assistant Professor of Marketing. Her doctoral research on the new Peruvian cuisine earned her the prestigious Best Critical Dissertation award in 2023 from the Critical Management Studies division of the Academy of Management. The findings of her doctoral dissertation have been published in Organization Studies (ABS 4) as well as in Latin American and UK newspaper outlets. In September 2025, Belinda joined the University of Birmingham as an Assistant Professor of Marketing.

Teaching

Belinda is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She has extensive experience in developing and delivering marketing modules at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the UK and internationally across various formats, including online and in person.

She currently teaches “Contemporary Global Marketing and Responsibility Issues” for the MSc Strategic Marketing program at Birmingham Business School. Notably, she also developed and taught the module on “Colonialism in the Marketplace” at the University of Sussex Business School, before joining the Birmingham Business School, and is currently teaching a version of it at the University of Warsaw, Faculty of Management

She also has a YouTube channel dedicated to helping her students improve their research and presentation skills.

Belinda is interested in supervising in the following areas:

  • Indigenous Peoples
  • Critical Marketing Theory
  • Marketing and Society

Research

Belinda's current work investigates topics such as authenticity production, craft production, and cultural appropriation. She is also actively interested in learning and researching about Indigenous worldviews through collaboration with Indigenous academics and entrepreneurs.

Belinda is also the founder and organizer of the Interdisciplinary Authenticity Group, which regularly convenes scholars to present and share their work. Those interested in joining the group are encouraged to email her. A full list of her publications is available on Google Scholar.
