Dr Mike Jesson is a Lecturer in Wind and Water Engineering. Following a successful career in industry, Mike completed his PhD in open-channel flow hydraulics in 2012. Two post-doctoral positions followed, during which Mike developed his reputation as an expert in transient wind fields, ranging from thunderstorm downbursts to highly turbulent urban flows. His expertise lies in the design, development and execution of novel experiments, often in challenging conditions, and the development of analytical models to represent natural phenomena. Mike has contributed his knowledge of boundary layer winds to crop lodging, analysing wind field data to provide model inputs. He research has been published in leading journals and presented at international conferences, and he has been an invited speaker at UK Wind Engineering Society technical meetings.

Dr Jesson teaches fluid mechanics and Water Engineering courses, and is First Year Director for the UoB's Engineering programmes.
