Dr Matt Peck is a Visiting Professor in Civil, Construction & Environmental Engineering and the Director of Innovation for the AtkinsRéalis Transportation Division. He is an experienced engineer with extensive digital innovation management experience.

Matt will help revise some of the programmes at the University of Birmingham's School of Engineering, guiding students to better understand the industry’s growing need for digital skills.

Biography

Matt is a Visiting Professor at School of Engineering, University of Birmingham. This is a Royal Academy of Engineering funded post tasked with helping the University modernise its civil, electrical and mechanical engineering syllabus’ to better prepare graduates for the digital workplace.

Matt is also the Director of Innovation for the AtkinsRéalis Transportation Division, and leads the development of O&M digital and data services. He is also an AtkinsRéalis Fellow, with a focus on Complex Systems Analysis. Matt leads on the investigation of data services, digital twins, complex systems analysis, and future technologies such as computer vision, AI and quantum computing. Although based in the Transportation Division Matt operates across AtkinsRéalis Road and Rail, Defence and Infrastructure Divisions.

Matt is the Transportation Division lead in the academic research, most notably on the Roads Research Alliance. This is a National Highways and Cambridge University research program undertaking primary research into data science and digital twins. Matt is supervising a range of research topics and is a Member of the Executive Board that guides the whole research programme.

Prior to joining AtkinsRéalis Matt spent over 20 years in the Defence & Intelligence sector leading teams developing digital solutions, most notably with the Defence Evaluation & Research Agency (1999-2010) but also in industry with Hewlett-Packard (2010-2016) and Fujitsu (2016-2018). He is an experienced Enterprise Architect who has led teams that have defined and delivered Enterprise IT transformation programmes for Defence, Law Enforcement and Central Government clients.
