Carley is a Clinical Senior Lecturer and freelance educator with a particular interest in teaching Clinical Anatomy to undergraduate and postgraduate students and colleagues. Within the Medical School, Carley is the lead for Anatomy and Applied Theory on the Physician Associate programme and is co-leading the development of an undergraduate imaging curriculum for the MBChB programme.

Biography

Innovative Anatomy - Inguinal Canal (iClinical®)

Carley is a clinically experienced and enthusiastic medical educator (PGCert Med Ed FHEA) based in the West Midlands. Her clinical experience (MBChB Hons, MRCS) and interests in clinical anatomy (MSc) allow her to support clinical anatomy and clinical skills teaching for undergraduate and post graduate students across a number of healthcare professions. She has a broad-based experience across teaching and learning design, delivery and assessment within medical education. Carley works collaboratively with other educators both within and external to the university, and encourages the development of colleagues through faculty development sessions. An example of one of Carley’s educational collaborations can be seen in the video. Carley has an interest in peer physical examination and has led on the development of a peer physical examination policy and procedure for the MBChB programme which is shared across the College.

Evaluative research considering student willingness to participate in peer physical examination.

Evaluative research determining the understanding of the physician associate role amongst senior healthcare students. 

Other activities

Carley undertakes freelance work in medical education. This includes as a freelance educator at the Royal College of Surgeons, England where she facilitates faculty development sessions for senior surgeons.
