David is an Associate Clinical Professor for Advanced Clinical Practice at the University of Birmingham, where he leads several key modules, including the Year Two Portfolio Module, Advanced Critical Care Module. His academic role is underpinned by extensive clinical experience and a strong commitment to developing the next generation of advanced clinical practitioners and advanced critical care practitioners.
He currently leads the MSc ACCP pathway at the University of Birmingham, overseeing curriculum review, the development of educational content, and the implementation of a bespoke e-portfolio mapped to the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) curriculum. These initiatives demonstrate his dedication to advancing ACCP education and ensuring alignment with national standards.
As a qualified Advanced Critical Care Practitioner, David continues to work in critical care within the West Midlands, maintaining a close link between clinical practice and academic teaching. This dual role ensures that his teaching remains current, relevant, and informed by contemporary clinical practice. Additionally, as Education Lead for ACCPs at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, he has designed and implemented structured development pathways, secured CPD funding, and established a framework to support early-career ACCP progression.
