Sophie is an Assistant Professor in Mental Health Nursing in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Birmingham. She has been a qualified Mental Health Nurse since 2017. Her teaching lies within risk, stigma, mental health law, and mental health assessment skills.

Biography

Sophie joined the University of Birmingham in 2025 as Assistant Professor in Mental Health Nursing. Sophie has taught in both medical and nursing education. Prior to moving into Higher Education, Sophie worked within the NHS in a variety of clinical settings including several acute mental health care settings, and Liaison Psychiatry services.

Sophie has a particular interest in co-producing mental health education and simulated mental health practice. In 2025 Sophie was a finalist for the Best Student Experience at the Student Nursing Times Awards. She was additionally a finalist for Best Lecturer, and Best Personal Tutor, at the Student Union Awards 2025.
