Sadegh Soudjani is the Director of Global Engagement at the School of Computer Science, University of Birmingham. He is also the director of the CPS Lab conducting cutting edge research at the intersection of Safe Autonomy & AI to develop an integrated environment for programming, verifying, and designing high-performance and scalable cyber-physical systems perceiving and acting in the uncertain physical world.
Previously, he was the Director of the AMBER Group at Newcastle University (40+ members), United Kingdom, Professor in Cyber-Physical Systems at Newcastle University, and Research Associate at the University of Oxford. His interests aim at developing and translating deep theoretical results into complex AI-driven applications including robotics, smart energy networks, and quantum computing.
He has published over 160 research articles and has been involved in a number of national, international and industrial research projects, acting as leading researcher and principal investigator, and having secured research grants for >8M Euros. He is the recipient of the prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant in 2023 and the EPSRC New Investigator Award from the UK Research Council in 2021. He is the coordinator of the EIC-Pathfinder SymAware for developing symbolic logic frameworks for situational awareness in learning-enabled systems.
