Derek Fallon qualified from University College Dublin with a B.A. (Hons) in English and History. After a period of time teaching English in Spain, Derek returned to University College Dublin to complete an M.A. in English. He then taught in New York, USA, before spending eight years in charge of the English programme at a hospital training centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he completed a Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
Derek’s next qualification was a PGCE in Primary Education. He then spent eight years as a primary school teacher in Birmingham, UK. After this, he went to Al Ain, UAE, where he spent five years as an English faculty member at the HCT Women’s College. Upon returning to the UK, Derek spent two more years as a primary school teacher before taking up a post at the University of Birmingham as an EAP Lecturer on pre-sessional courses for Business English students. He took up his current post at the University of Birmingham Dubai in September 2018.
