Biography

Dr Hussein A. Hassan is an Assistant Professor in Economics at the University of Birmingham Dubai and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Leicester and has extensive teaching, research and leadership experience across the United Kingdom, the Middle East and China. His teaching and research focus on econometrics, macroeconomics, international economics and financial markets. Dr Hassan has taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules and is recognised for his student-centred approach and commitment to academic excellence.

His research interests lie in applied macroeconometrics, financial market volatility, monetary policy, energy economics and international trade. He has supervised doctoral researchers, examined PhD theses and contributed to international research projects and collaborations. Alongside his research and teaching, Dr Hassan has held several academic leadership positions, including Programme Director, Director of Internationalisation and External Examiner, contributing to curriculum development, quality assurance and transnational education partnerships.

He is passionate about advancing economics education, supporting student success and conducting research that informs policy and practice in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
