Dr Al Mamun is actively engaged in research that explores the intersections of place, identity, and entrepreneurship within marginalised communities. His current projects include a visual narratives study focusing on ethnic minority social entrepreneurs in the UK Midlands. This study investigates how drawing-based research methods can uncover cultural identity, community embeddedness, and non-linear entrepreneurial pathways.
He is also examining neurodivergent entrepreneurship, masculinity, and well-being among ethnic minority male entrepreneurs in the UK, analysing how cultural expectations influence entrepreneurial experiences and mental health. Additional projects delve into the intersectionality of place and gender in sustainable entrepreneurship through longitudinal case studies and a comparative analysis of environmental objectives in rural versus urban social enterprises.
Dr Al Mamun is contributing to interdisciplinary research on entrepreneurial mentoring, exploring how mentoring functions through dual pathways to enhance entrepreneurial effectiveness and psychological well-being, drawing parallels with cognitive-behavioural therapy approaches. His work further investigates the role of artificial intelligence in facilitating SME growth in China and advancing climate disclosure research from integrated perspectives. Current book chapters under development focus on implementing circular economy practices in Bangladesh's ready-made garment industry and on solidarity economies combating modern slavery in supply chains.
Dr Al Mamun's research is featured in leading entrepreneurship journals. His 2025 article in the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour & Research delves into place attachment in sustainable entrepreneurship, focusing on an ethnic minority entrepreneur in the UK. In 2023, his paper in The International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation explored innovation among ethnic minority restaurant owners during COVID-19.
He has contributed chapters to books on entrepreneurship in challenging contexts, including a 2023 publication by Springer on China's zero-COVID policy. His teaching case studies at the Case Centre address issues such as child marriages and women's empowerment in Bangladesh, as well as support for asylum seekers through social enterprise.
Dr Al Mamun has presented at international conferences, including the JBVI Entrepreneurship Academy (2025), AIB Annual Conferences (2023-2025), and ISBE Annual Conferences (2021-2024).
