Dr Jianing Li is a Lecturer in Smart Energy Systems. His research interests include electricity market modelling, energy policies, smart grid, distributed energy systems, internet of things and machine learning technology.

In the past years, he has delivered a world-leading distributed micro virtual power plant system with industrial partners. It addresses the fundamental technology in distributed energy systems. More importantly, it tackles fuel poverty challenge and provides strong justification for investment in energy efficiency measure He also has been actively developing innovative business and market modelling of distributed energy systems to enable grid flexibility. In 2019, he delivered a First of its Kind project with Riding Sunbeams funded by the InnovateUK in integration of renewable generation in Rail power systems.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering (University of Birmingham)
  • BEng (Hons) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering (University of Birmingham)
  • BEng in Electrical Engineering and Automation (Huazhong University of Science & Technology)

Biography

Jianing Li graduated from University of Birmingham and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) with BEng in Electrical Engineering with 1st class in 2011. He then continued for a PhD in Electrical Engineering in the Department of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Birmingham.

In 2015, he started to work as research fellow for an EPSRC project in collaboration with National Grid. He was appointed as a Senior Research Fellow in September 2016. He obtained the lectureship with the University of Birmingham in November 2019.
