After completing a BA in English and Greek Studies at the University of Athens, I moved to the UK to pursue postgraduate studies in Translation and Intercultural Studies at the University of Manchester, where I completed both my MA and PhD under the supervision of Professor Mona Baker. During my doctoral studies, I worked as a Research Assistant on the Translational English Corpus, contributing to the development and expansion of one of the largest corpora of translated English.

I joined the University of Birmingham in 2013 and have since held a range of academic leadership and administrative roles, including Programme Lead for the MA Translation Studies programmes, Deputy Director of Taught Admissions for the College of Arts and Law, and Senior Admissions Tutor.

My research has developed through a sustained interest in language, corpus methodologies and intercultural communication. While my early work focused on translation, language contact and language change, my more recent research has expanded into tourism discourse, sustainability, environmental communication and eco-linguistic approaches to language. Across these areas, I am interested in how language reflects and promotes particular worldviews and in how corpus linguistic methods can contribute to their investigation.

I have worked with multilingual data from a range of languages, including French, Greek, and Russian, and continue to explore questions that connect linguistics with broader social and environmental concerns.

My teaching draws on expertise in corpus linguistics, multilingual and intercultural communication, translation, and research methods. I am particularly interested in helping students develop the analytical and methodological skills needed to investigate language use in contemporary social and environmental contexts.

My current research focuses on tourism communication. I investigate how destinations are represented through language and the worldviews that underpin those representations. Recent work has explored these questions from an eco-linguistic perspective and has examined their implications for sustainability.

I also investigate the role of translation in mediating different ways of understanding the world. Drawing on multilingual corpora, I examine how meanings are negotiated across languages and how translation contributes to processes of language contact and language change.

A defining feature of my work is its interdisciplinary orientation, combining linguistic approaches with perspectives from other disciplines to address socially relevant questions.

Methodological innovation forms an important component of my research. I am interested in corpus-based approaches to linguistic analysis and in developing methods for the investigation of multilingual data.
