Biography

I am delighted to join Birmingham Law School following experience as Teaching Fellow at Durham Law School, and in the roles of co-director of the Durham European Law Institute (DELI), member of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee and lead for decolonising the curriculum.

I hold a PhD with no corrections from Durham University, where I previously completed my LLB studies. I also received an LLM in International Financial Law with Distinction from King’s College London. I take pride in being an educator and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2019.

I am broadly interested in financial law, commercial/corporate Law, and European Union law. My research tackles the non-economic side of financial law, including how it impacts vulnerable groups in society, as well as the integration of financial policy and environmental policy. I am keenly interested in pedagogy and in student-staff collaboration on feedback and assessment practices. My academic work draws on practical training with law firms, diplomatic institutions, and judicial bodies—most recently, the Court of Justice of the European Union.

In my free time, I can be found contemplating my life choices while trekking uphill through deep snow, daydreaming in an art museum, or fighting the urge to buy yet another houseplant.

Teaching

  • Commercial Law (Module Leader)
  • Banking Law
  • International Investment Law
  • Legal Foundations of the European Union

Research

My research is concerned with the conceptualisation of financial law, particularly the economic and non-economic utility of financial stability, the objective of financial inclusion, and the exchange of ideas between financial policy and environmental/public health policy. I enjoy combining theory with analysis of complex regulatory structures to make the subject more accessible.

In the area of pedagogy, I am mainly interested in constructive instruction and the cognitive psychology of learning, as well as redesigning feedback and assessment practices to engage and empower students.
