Michael Biehl: Prototype-Based Classifiers and Their Application in the Life Science

Michael Biehl is Honorary Professor of machine learning with the Institute of Metabolism & Systems Research, Centre for Systems Modelling and Quantitative Biomedicine. He is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, Bernoulli Institute for Mathematics, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Michael Biehl’s main research interests are in the theory and algorithm development, and application of machine learning. The analysis of bio-medical data plays a central role in this context.

Biography

Michael Biehl received the Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Gießen, Germany, in 1992, and the Habilitation degree in theoretical physics with the University of Würzburg, Germany, in 1996. He is currently a Professor of computer science at the Bernoulli Institute for Mathematics, Computer Science, and Artificial Intelligence, University of Groningen, The Netherlands. His research interests include theoretical investigation, development, and application of machine learning methods. Since February 2021, he is Honorary Professor of Machine Learning with the Centre for Systems Modelling and Quantitative Biomedicine.
