Lillian Sol Cueva is an interdisciplinary academic with expertise in energy research, feminist studies and social science. Her research interests concern the role of socio-technical imaginaries in shaping energy systems, intersectional issues of gender, race, and class in the context of resource extraction, and participatory methods to do research and facilitate public participation. 

As Research Fellow in Energy Vulnerability, Lillian will contribute to research-related activities and research-related administration of the Energy Solidarity in Latin America (ESLatina) project.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Development Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam 2023
  • MA in International Humanitarian Action, University of Groningen 2011
  • BSc in International Relations, National Autonomous University of Mexico 2008

Biography

Lillian recently submitted her doctoral thesis at the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University Rotterdam, exploring alternative socio-technical imaginaries of energy futures with vendors from public markets across Mexico City. Her innovative methodology were recognised by the Energy SSH Innovation Awards for Early Career Researchers, who awarded her the Award for Innovative Methods in 2021. 

Her background is in humanitarian action and international relations, and she brings significant experience in participatory and art-based methodologies, feminist storytelling, feminist political ecology, and gender mainstreaming to the University of Birmingham. She has had a varied career, working previously as a policy advisor, advocacy consultant, and researcher.
