He is a senior member of the Birmingham Centre for Evidence and Implementation Science. Qualifications PhD in Health Services Research, University of Aberdeen, 2020 MSc in Physiotherapy (neurorehabilitation), University of Nottingham, 2016 BSc in Physiotherapy, Misr University for Science and Technology, 2008 Biography Adel received his first degree in physiotherapy in Egypt where he originally came from. He then moved to the UK to complete his postgraduate studies in physiotherapy and health services research. Adel started his academic career at the University of Liverpool before joining the Warwick Evidence group at the University of Warwick back in 2021 as a systematic reviewer. During this time with the group, he cemented his evidence synthesis skills and contributed to several systematic reviews and health technology assessments (HTAs) to help inform healthcare decision making including those carried out by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). He has undertaken systematic reviews and evidence syntheses on a wide range of topics including clinical effectiveness of oxygenation strategies in the perioperative period and innovative ventilation technologies in the intensive care unit. Adel’s ongoing research interests include evidence synthesis and trial methodology research [covering assessment of risk of bias, GRADE certainty in evidence and testing strategies to improve efficiency of clinical trials and systematic reviews using Studies Within a Trial (SWAT) and Studies Within a Review (SWAR)] and methods for Indirect Treatment Comparison (ITC). Teaching Adel has led and taught the postgraduate module ‘Understanding Research and Critical Appraisal in Health Care’, and have supervised undergraduate students undertaking evidence synthesis projects.
