Dr Nick Gore works closely with people with intellectual (learning) disabilities, families and professionals, to carry out clinical work, conduct and use research, and develop practical resources, guidance and systems that support life quality.

Biography

Dr Nick Gore is a clinical psychologist and researcher working in the field of intellectual (learning) disabilities. Nick’s clinical and research work focusses on systems and interventions that promote good lives for people with intellectual disabilities and those who care for and support them.

He has gained considerable experience working clinically, training people and consulting across health, social care and educational contexts, developing guidance and clinical resources and leading and supporting applied research. Nick’s work concerns people with intellectual disabilities of all ages but he has a special interest in supporting children and young people and their families.

Nick has led on the co-production, development and associated research of Early Positive Approaches to Support (E-PAtS - a co-facilitated support programme for families of young children with additional developmental needs). He has also conducted multiple research projects, authored multiple papers and developed a variety of resources to support people who present with behavioural challenges, paid staff and family caregivers.  

Nick has worked to help establish and lead a variety of co-production initiatives, collaborative professional networks, and impact projects to drive service quality and support the rights and lives of people with learning disabilities and their families.  

Nick currently works part time at IDRIS and leads a clinical service for children and young people with learning disabilities within the NHS.

Postgraduate supervision

Nick has supervised a number of PhD students to completion with a focus on intellectual disability.

Research

Nick’s current research focuses on intellectual disability and concerns co-production, early years and family support, emotional, mental health and behavioural challenges, developmental difficulties, communication, engagement and self-determination.
