Dr Sharmistha Mallick is a Marie-Curie Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology, Kamala Nehru College, University of Delhi. She is a health sociologist working in the areas of complementary and alternative medicine, public-private health care systems and medical anthropology.

Biography

Dr Sharmistha Mallick is a Marie-Curie Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham. She has been working as an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Kamala Nehru College, University of Delhi, India. She is the author of Mainstreaming Ayurveda: Alternative Medicine and Public Health Care System in Delhi (London: Routledge, UK March 2024). Her research articles appeared in various journals including Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine, Indian Journal of Public Health and in the Newsletter of IIAS. She specialises in the fields of complementary and alternative medicine, public-private health care systems, medical anthropology and urban sociology. She taught courses Sociology of Health and Medicine, Introductory Sociology, Urban Sociology, Cities and Society and Sociological Perspectives. Besides, she is a versatile singer and performer and runs her music band based in Delhi, India.
