Emily qualified as a nurse in 1995; in her early career she specialised in intensive care of the newborn working in a Level 3 neonatal referral unit in London. She qualified as a midwife in 1999 working initially in the acute setting and then as a community midwife and birth centre lead. With the advent of the maternity transformation programme Emily had the opportunity to work in a strategic role as part of a maternity choice and personalisation pioneer and later went on to develop the South East London Local Maternity System response to Better Births as part of the Local Maternity System Management Team.
Following this Emily joined NHS England in regional and national roles where she was Head of the South East Regional Clinical Senate supporting systems undergoing major service change working with clinical experts in the field to ensure proposed changes met nationally agreed best clinical practice and assurance specifications.
Emily is an Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Programme alumna and is an Associate Professor for the NHS Graduate Management Trainee Scheme and Senior Leader Post Graduate Programmes.
Emily is applying to do her PhD which will have a focus on organisational culture in maternity.
