Susanna is a musculoskeletal physiotherapist and PhD student with a special interest in spinal deformity and spinal pain. Susanna has extensive NHS and clinical experience primarily within musculoskeletal outpatients alongside her research on post-operative rehabilitation following spinal fusion for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Biography

Susanna is a musculoskeletal physiotherapist with extensive clinical experience in a variety of contexts, from acute NHS trusts to specialist tertiary care and private practice. She has a specialist interest in spinal pain and specifically spinal deformity and has worked in a variety of spinal, spinal deformity, and pain management services alongside her practice in musculoskeletal outpatients. 

Susanna began teaching in 2022 and took up a permanent position lecturing at the University of Birmingham in 2025. She teaches across a range of musculoskeletal modules for both undergraduate and pre-registration programs. 

She is currently completing her PhD exploring facilitation of sports, exercise, and physical activity participation in post-operative rehabilitation following spinal fusion for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS). Susanna has a particular interest in development of clinical guidance and her research will form the basis for the first expert consensus in post-operative rehabilitation following spinal fusion in AIS.
