EPS Kaplan Scholarships

The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) awards scholarships to Kaplan IFY students who join a University undergraduate programme.*

The following scholarships are available for Kaplan International College London (KICL) IFY students joining an EPS programme in September 2023. These scholarships are only available during your University of Birmingham programme, and you should contact Kaplan directly to enquire about scholarships available during your Kaplan programme. These scholarships are not available to:

  • Birmingham International Academy students, progressing to Year 1 at Birmingham
  • Kaplan IYOne students, progressing to Year 2 entry at Birmingham.

School of Engineering

The School of Engineering includes programmes in the following areas: Civil, Electronic and Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic and Robotic, and General Engineering.

  • Year 1 at UoB: £1,500: Overall Kaplan mark of 70% (Excluding English modules). Or; Year 1 at UoB: £3,000: Overall Kaplan mark of 75% (Excluding English modules).
  • Following years: £1,500 per year: Students attaining 70%+ at the end of each of year at UoB, in their first attempt.

School of Chemical Engineering

  • The School of Chemical Engineering is happy to be able to recognise and reward our top incoming Overseas students to celebrate your academic achievements before arriving as a student at the University of Birmingham. The Chemical Engineering Excellence Scholarship consists of a £3000 bank transfer or tuition fee reduction during year 1 semester 1 for the top 10 students who meet the conditions.

  • Applicants from Kaplan will be considered in the same pool with all new undergraduate Overseas students for the Chemical Engineering Excellence Scholarship.
  • Holders of this award become eligible for the Chemical Engineering First Class Scholarship after year 1, which is applied in the form of a £1500 tuition fee discount.

School of Chemistry

  • The School of Chemistry is happy to be able to recognise and reward our top incoming Overseas students to celebrate your academic achievements before arriving as a student at the University of Birmingham. The International Chemistry Scholarship consists of a £2000 bank transfer or tuition fee reduction during year 1 semester 1 for the top 10 students who meet the conditions.

  • Kaplan students with 70%+ will be considered in the same pool with all new undergraduate Overseas students for the International Chemistry Scholarship.

School of Metallurgy and Materials

The School of Metallurgy and Materials includes programmes in the following fields: Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, Nuclear Science.

  • Year 1 at UoB: £1,500: Overall Kaplan mark of 70% (Excluding English modules). Or; Year 1 at UoB: £3,000: Overall Kaplan mark of 75% (Excluding English modules).
  • Following years: £1,500 per year: Students attaining 70%+ at the end of each of year at UoB, in their first attempt.

School of Physics

  • Year 1 at UoB: £1,500: Overall Kaplan mark of 80% (Excluding English modules); Or; Year 1 at UoB: £3,000: Overall Kaplan mark of 85% (Excluding English modules).
  • Following years: £1,500: Students attaining 70%+ at the end of each of year at UoB, in their first attempt.

School of Maths

  • Year 1 at UoB: £1,500: Overall Kaplan mark of 75% (Excluding English modules) and 80% in Maths. Or; Year 1 at UoB: £2,000: Excellence Scholarship: Overall Kaplan mark of 80% (Excluding English modules) and 80% in Maths
  • Following years: £1,500: Students attaining 60%+ at the end of each of year at UoB, in their first attempt.

School of Computer Science

  • Year 1 at UoB: £1,500: Overall Kaplan mark of 75% (Excluding English modules). Or; Year 1 at UoB: £3,000: Overall Kaplan mark of 80% (Excluding English modules).
  • Following years: £1,500: Students attaining 70%+ at the end of each of year at UoB, in their first attempt.

T&Cs

  • Fees must not wholly be paid by a sponsoring body.
  • Scholarship receiver must be classified as International for fees on your acceptance to the university. 
  • Renewable scholarships will pause for years spent in: Industry years; international study years; or intercalated study years, and will restart during your return to study in your School of study at Birmingham, based on the performance from the year before your year out.
  • Kaplan Scholarships will not be stated in your Birmingham offer letter or CAS. The Kaplan Scholarship will be confirmed to all recipients directly upon enrolment to UoB. The discount may not be applied at the time of enrolment, and if not, will be applied early in semester 1.
