Professor Shishir Shetty
Liver disease and its complication of liver cancer are both major global health challenges. Birmingham has an international reputation for treating patients with liver disease with one of the largest transplant programmes in Europe and undertaking research to help find new treatments for these conditions.
Professor Shetty will be discussing his career in liver medicine and his academic journey starting with undertaking his PhD at the University of Birmingham in liver disease and then developing a research programme which explores how cancer develops in patients with liver disease.
Immunotherapy, which uses the body’s own immune system to fight cancer, has revolutionised cancer treatment, and Professor Shetty will explain how his research has helped develop new immunotherapies for patients with liver cancer.
Join us for what promises to be a fascinating lecture. Open to all. Please note this is an in-person only event.
