Professor Alice Turner

Alice reflects on her personal and professional journey to the start of her professorship five years ago, and since. The lecture will focus on Alice’s commitment to research in lung disease, specifically in Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency - the rare of the title - and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - the common.

She will reflect on the different phases her career has taken, the ups and downs and lessons she would pass on to others setting out in academia.

Join us for what promises to be a fascinating lecture. Open to all. Please note this is an in-person only event.

Directions to the Medical School:

The CPD Lecture Theatre (WG17) is in the University of Birmingham's Medical School in the Centre for Lifelong Learning (ground floor, West Wing) on the Edgbaston campus. The Medical School is on the West side of campus, just off Vincent Drive opposite the University Train Station.

You can find a detailed map of campus on our website.

Visitor car parking:

Visitor parking is available at Northeast Multi-storey Car Park (Pritchatts Road, B15 2SA). There are five floors in total, however, the ground floor is reserved for Edgbaston Park Hotel guests only. Should you wish to charge your electric car, there are two EV charging stations on the car park's roof level (charges apply). Please note that this car park does not have a lift.

Travel by train:

The University has its own train station, which is across the street from the Medical School. Up to six trains an hour depart for the University on the cross-city line (ten minutes to University station, final destination Bromsgrove or Redditch). Follow the signs on arrival for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Further information about travelling to campus is available on our website.
