The summer term programme: preparing students for study, work and life - transcript

This term’s MicroCPD series focuses on the new three week Summer Term Programme, intended to enable students’ successful transition and progression to future years of study, and employment.

If we are to offer all of our students a transformative education, it is important that they do well in their exams and assignments but that they also develop the skills, qualities and attributes necessary for study, work and life.

The programme is a dedicated period, embedded into the academic calendar, when all students can take part in learning experiences that will prepare them for life after university.

In 2024 the Summer Term Programme will run from 3rd to 21st June. During this period all Schools will offer their students academic progression and transition learning activities that are connected to, and extend beyond, subject related knowledge and skills. During the same period UoB Xtra will take place. UoB Xtra is a university wide, inclusive programme of co-curricular activities that will enable all students to develop the UoB graduate attributes.

The Summer Term is our chance to demonstrate to all students that we take their learning and personal development seriously. It is also a great opportunity for staff to be innovative and to offer learning experiences that provide meaningful opportunities for students to develop character and graduate attributes that will contribute to their overall sense of flourishing.

In future weeks, we will share some case studies that may give you some ideas of what you could include in the Summer Term Programme for your School.
