Join us for an evening of reggae music with Gabbidon Band.

Led by Basil Gabbidon, founder member of Steel Pulse, one of the biggest Reggae bands to come out of Birmingham and the UK. GABBIDON BAND makes sure that Reggae music remains live in Birmingham, the UK, Europe and Worldwide.

Basil has had a varied and successful career in Reggae music as lead guitarist, singer, songwriter for the last 4 decades.

Basil taught himself how to play the guitar when he was 14 after hearing Nimey’s song ‘Blood and Fire’ and the ‘Cath A Fire’ album by Bob Marley and the Wailers. Whilst in secondary school, he formed the worldwide renowned band Steel Pulse with his school friend David Hinds. He recorded the first 4 albums with the group before leaving in 1981 and this has led him to experiment with new ideas and new sounds whilst still maintaining the Steel Pulse flavour.

Basil’s creativity has never run out of steam and after forming Gabbidon, Basil launched a joint venture named ‘Reggae Rockz’ with ArtsFest and Symphony Hall (Birmingham), performing at Centenary Square in front of a 10,000 strong audience. Artists such as Dawn Penn and Neville Staples also performed on the night.

Basil has recorded and produced 7 eclectic albums which contain a vibrant mix of reggae, rock and roots music. The latest album ‘Let’s Live’ was released in October 2021 and is available in store (HMV Birmingham, Hatman & the Diskery) as well as online (Amazon, Spotify, YouTube).

Gabbidon Band has played at various international and national festivals in the USA, Europe and the UK. Gabbidon Band regularly plays at the Birmingham Jam House.
