Birmingham Law School students have demonstrated their pedal power in a 24-hour 'Law de France' charitable cycle challenge, covering the equivalent 428.5km distance from London to Paris. Student volunteers were joined by some of our more intrepid staff to power through 30-minute stints in aid of some very worthy legal charities.

The event marks the conclusion of a fundraising drive organised by the Student Pro Bono Group, through which they have raised over £700 in aid of the Midlands Legal Support Trust, LawWorks and the Bar Pro Bono Unit.

Our dynamic Pro Bono Group committee - headed by Chair, Christopher Walker, and ably assisted by Deputy Chair, Sacha Hibbitt, Fundraising Coordinator, Faye Spencer, and their dedicated committee colleagues - staged a series of events and activities, beginning with a pub quiz and culminating in the cycle challenge

A Krispy Kreme doughnut sale was sandwiched between a week of Apprentice-style team events in which students were given a 'start-up fund' of £10 and tasked with finding creative ways to build profit; team successes included: a bake sale; a pub games night and raffle; and a house cleaning service for friends and housemates!

Linden Thomas, Solicitor and CEPLER Manager, commented, "We are delighted and impressed by the energy and enthusiasm the Pro Bono Group committee and volunteers have given to this year's fundraising initiatives. CEPLER would like to thank everyone who participated and donated in support of some excellent causes."
