PhD Scientific Winter Retreat

From 16th to 18th of January, the second PhD Scientific Winter Retreat took place in Hasliberg, Switzerland. All PhD students from the five Departments of Biomedicine (DBM) in Basel attended and either gave a talk or presented a poster. They shared their own research findings from four different disciplines: Immunology, Stem cells and Regenerative Medicine, Neurobiology, and Oncology. Two Keynote speakers rounded out the program.

Llucia Alberti-Servera and Audrey Lilly von Muenchow, PhD students with the Marie Curie FP7 ITN DECIDE, had the opportunity to take part in this event and presented a poster. They also learned about other projects and the interaction with students from other areas made the meeting a valuable experience.

The talks and poster sessions were intensive. Some less formal activities, like a nightly snow walk with a campfire and mulled wine served in an igloo, provided time to relax. A third day was scheduled for some winter sport activities in the beautiful Swiss Alps, but unfortunately strong winds caused the cable car stations to close. Instead, a walking tour to a restaurant rewarded us with tasty lunch and an amazing view.
