Visiting Fellows Scheme

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the Visiting Fellows Scheme. The scheme will provide 10 early career university lecturers or post-doctoral researchers currently working at recognised universities in Brazil the opportunity to spend three months at the University of Birmingham carrying out identified research projects.

The aims of the Scheme are to:

Support the professional development of early career researchers at Brazilian universities

  • Enable Visiting Fellows to obtain insight into the organisation and conduct of research, training and administration at the host UK University
  • Promote research collaboration between leading groups in Birmingham, Nottingham and Brazil through projects undertaken initially in the UK
  • Support partnership development and collaboration between the Universities of Birmingham and Nottingham and institutions in Brazil

We welcome applications to any subject area, particularly our priority subject areas:

  • Energy, with particular reference to sustainable energy, bioenergy, carbon capture and storage, oil and gas, nuclear energy and energy policy
  • Food security
  • Globalisation (particularly from an economics/business perspective)
  • Imaging, neuroscience and cognition
  • Astronomy
  • Mathematics
  • Materials (from nano to structural material properties)

Accommodation will be provided at each host institution. In addition, the scheme will provide funding of £425 per month for fellows for up to three months to help cover living expenses, and a further £500 towards travel costs. For 2012 we are looking forward to welcoming participants to the UK from April 16th to July 6th.

A number of joint activities will be organised for Visiting Fellows during their stay in the UK, including a welcome reception, induction and social events.

The Visiting Fellows Scheme is being delivered in partnership with The University of Nottingham. For details of their fellowships please see www.nottingham.ac.uk/internationaloffice/brazil

The deadline for applications has now passed, however there may still be opportunities in selected subject areas. The scheme is planned to run again in January 2013.
