The University of Birmingham is geared up for A-Level results day as thousands of students across the country will be seeking a university place through the clearing system.
The University’s Great Hall has been transformed into a clearing control centre as around 30 admissions and academic staff will be on stand-by for calls from students hoping to get a place at the university.
The admissions team will be individually assessing the results of more than 6,500 students who have chosen the University of Birmingham as their first choice, in order to make a decision on whether they can take up their places.
The centre is expecting over 9,000 phone calls from students seeking information on the availability of courses, the number of places available and students are advised to expect to speak to academic staff to provide reasoning for their decisions.
Roderick Smith, Director of Admissions at the University of Birmingham, said: "Clearing can be a stressful time for students and parents; but our advisors are on hand to help. To help the students make the best decision, our advice is not to panic, know what you want to study and to apply to a university where the entry requirements match your grades."
A list of clearing vacancies at the University of Birmingham will be available online from Wednesday 16 August at www.marketing.bham.ac.uk/admissions/clearing. Students can call the Clearing Hotline on 0121 414 2222 to speak to an advisor.
