From 1st September until 13th October, Winterbourne House and Garden’s Coach House Gallery will be exhibiting the work of artist designer, Chris Eckersley with his collection of works entitled ‘The Colours of Winterbourne’.

The collection began life as a series of photos taken in the stunning arts and crafts garden at Winterbourne, in 2009. Identifying groups of colours occurring naturally in the garden, Chris selected six colours from each print as a starting point for the work.

Deep greens, vivid lilacs and orange illustrate the array of colour the natural world offers, and the collection makes for a beautiful juxtaposition of the textures and hues in the plants themselves and the colours that can be extracted from them.

Chris has designed furniture for Liberty & Co, London, and also works in print, sculpture and line drawing. Originally from Birmingham, he is pleased to be exhibiting at Winterbourne on the University of Birmingham campus.

Winterbourne’s Coach House Gallery opened with the house restoration in May 2010. A further set of photography exhibitions in 2012 are planned, including an exhibition during Islam Awareness week and a compilation of sketches by local people for the Big Draw.

Lee Hale, Curator at Winterbourne said of the space: ‘We have been very lucky to have the opportunity to exhibit the work of such a talent as Chris and are looking forward to another year of exciting collections in the gallery. Visitors do not often expect such a modern exhibition space at a heritage attraction.’

The exhibition is free and open 10am-6pm every day during September, and 10am-4pm during October.
