Prof. Dr Rainer Klump, Vice President of Frankfurt’s Goethe University, visited the University of Birmingham today to further develop ties between the two universities.

In addition to meeting senior staff including Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Whitby, Professor Klump gave a guest lecture entitled ‘Modell Deutschland’: the past, present and future of the social market economy at the Institute of German Studies.

Frankfurt and Birmingham have been sister cities since 1966. Complementing the University of Birmingham’s established sister-city links with Chicago and Guangzhou, its growing relationship with Frankfurt focuses on academic collaboration in film, art history, music, social sciences and economics, as well as developing student work placements.

Andréa Edwards, Director of International Development and Mobility at the University of Birmingham, said: “Further to our recent visit to Frankfurt, we are delighted to welcome Professor Klump to Birmingham strengthening links between the two universities and both cities. Here at the University of Birmingham we continue to develop mutually beneficial partnerships with sister cities, such as Frankfurt, and in other parts of the world.”
