The Summer Festival of Music is a week-long student organised festival creating music-making opportunities for performers from across the University and the wider community. Each year the festival welcomes new participants in a variety of roles, involving as many people as possible – from conductors, to composers, players, and the organising committee.
Christoph Willibald Gluck's opera 'Iphigénia in Aulis' based on Euripides' classic Greek tragedy opens the festival in the Barber Concert Hall on Friday 7 June at 7pm. There will also be performances taking place on Saturday 8 June at 3pm and Sunday 9 June at 6pm. There will be a lunchtime recital from the university’s postgraduate community and a concert showcasing Chamber Ensembles, including a new student composition. For their debut in the Elgar Concert Hall, the Sinfonia will be joined by a student soloist. The Wind Band, Brass Band, Sax Ensemble, and electroacoustic performance MiniBEAST will be playing on campus on Sunday 9 June as part of the university’s Community Day. The ever popular Big Band will punctuate a quiz in The Bristol Pear. The week will be rounded off with a lunchtime concert from the Festival Voices, including a barbershop-style performance, back in the Barber Concert Hall.
