Postgraduate Open Day

Open Day on campus

The next University of Birmingham Postgraduate Open Day is on Friday 3 March 2017.

The Postgraduate Open Day gives you the opportunity to talk to our experts and find out more about the wide portfolio of taught and research opportunities available to you at the University.

To book your place and to receive updates about the schedule, please sign up via the form below.

When you register, the March programme will be sent out in the week before the Open Day to everyone who has registered.

We are currently putting together the schedule, but you can download the full open day programme (PDF, 361KB) from the November Open Day to get an idea of the day. You can also use the information below to start to plan your visit to the University.

Postgraduate Advice Lounge and Study fair

The Advice Lounge gives you the opportunity to chat to current postgraduates and representatives from the Guild of Students over complimentary refreshments. You can also speak to a funding advisor and have a one-to-one advice session with a member of our Careers Network.

The main focus of the Open Day will be the Postgraduate Study Fair located in the Great Hall, Aston Webb Building (R6). Academic staff, representatives from the University’s support services and current postgraduate students will be available to answer your questions.

Central talks

A welcome talk, introduction to postgraduate study and presentation on funding opportunities will be given before the Study Fair opens.

Café Masters and Café PhD

Cafés are informal social events designed to enable anyone interested in starting a postgraduate programme to network with current students and get tips on the application process and sources of funding. These events offer an opportunity to get first-hand, impartial advice on what it’s actually like to be a postgraduate student at Birmingham. Refreshments will be provided and you can come along for the whole session, or drop in whenever you can.

Campus tours will run throughout the day (10:00–15:30), allowing you to experience our tranquil, picturesque campus first hand. Tours depart on the hour and at half-past from Reception, Aston Webb Building (R6), and last 45 minutes to an hour.

There will also be opportunities to take a look at some of our postgraduate accommodation, and to take a tour of our postgraduate research hub and the new library.

Subject events

Our academic schools and departments will be offering presentations on the postgraduate study options within their academic area. Schools and departments will also be open to enable you to drop in and take a look around the facilities. Most subject-specific events will run during the afternoon, but please note that some may take place earlier or later in the day so it is crucial that you check the full open day programme in the week before the event so that you don’t miss out.

Once you have registered using the form below, you will be sent full details of the Postgraduate Open Day programme in the run up to the event.

Local travel and parking

Open days are a very busy time for the University and as such we are only able to offer a limited number of parking spaces on these days. For your convenience, we would strongly recommend using public transport to reach us. The University of Birmingham is fortunate enough to have its own railway station, ‘University’. The centre of the main campus is just a five-minute walk from University station.
