The Birmingham Centre for Translation (BCT) brings together staff and students from across the College of Arts and Law with research and teaching interests in Translation Studies.
We have a vibrant research community spanning disciplines such as English Language, English Literature, Modern Languages, Classics, Theology, and Byzantine, Ottoman and Modern Greek Studies. Our research strengths include literary translation and reception, adaptation, translation history and corpus-based translation studies. Staff at Birmingham have edited or contributed to some standard reference works in the field including The Routledge Encyclopedia of Translation Studies, The Routledge Handbook of Translation Studies and The Oxford History of Literary Translation in English. We hold a regular programme of research seminars and an annual Translation Studies Research Forum.
We offer a range of opportunities for postgraduate study including an MA in Translation Studies and an MA in Translation Studies by distance learning. We offer an MA by Research, PhD and PhD by distance learning, based in either the Department of English or the Department of Modern Languages.
