The Nuclear Power Technology team has a broad spectrum of interests right across the fission and fusion field. Their research runs side by side with the MSc course in Physics and Technology of Nuclear Reactors, which is the oldest course of its type in the UK, having run for over 50 years.
Each year, in excess of 30 MSc research programmes are delivered in this area in collaboration with industrial partners. The Birmingham Centre for Nuclear Education and Research is in the process of focusing its capabilities in this area, but key themes include:
- Neutron transport and radiation damage
- Systems engineering
- Radiation hard sensor development
- Computational fluid dynamics
