Accessing Social Care – Learning Disabilities

People with learning disabilities from black and minority groups: An exploration of their experiences and views of services

Access to Social Care Services - Learning DisabilitiesWe are running a research study, to ask adults with learning disabilities from minority ethnic communities about their views of social care services. The study has been funded by the National Institute for Health Research’s School of Social Care Research.

If you are a service provider, or a researcher, and you would like to read a more detailed summary of our project, please see the 'research summary' page.

We have interviewed 32 people with learning disabilities from minority ethnic communities throughout the West Midlands.

The results of interviews were brought to a Partnership Event in November 2013. At this event, we disseminated our preliminary findings through the use of digital stories and worked on some activities. We worked with the attendees to gain feedback and ideas for the digital stories and the activities. We hope to refine these resources and make them available in spring next 2014.
