Staff from the School of Biosciences and the Institute of Microbiology and Infection (IMI) visit the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) [Pictured right] in Bangalore next week to take part in a joint microbiology symposium.

Indian Institute of Science - Bangalore

MIB 2014 (Microbiology @ IISc and UoB) provides a platform for microbiology researchers at the two institutions to highlight their research, and to explore potential collaborative links. The symposium builds on existing links that the Bhatt, Busby, Besra and Lund labs have with IISc as part of a UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) funded thematic partnership. Thanks to additional funding from the UoB India Travel Fund, Robin May and our two Birmingham Fellows, Damon Huber and Vass Bavro will also attend the symposium and hopefully the existing links will expand to include our expertise in fungal host-pathogen interactions, biology of protein secretion and the structural biology of bacterial membrane protein complexes. Established in 1909, the Indian Institute of Science is one of India’s premier research institutes and its faculty included famous scientists from India including G.N.Ramachandran of the ‘Ramachandran Plot’.
