Nature - 15 June 2017

Two papers in the 15 June issue of Nature describe how on-site rapid sequencing has been used to follow the spread of Zika virus and its evolution. Both papers have important contributions from Professor Nick Loman of the School of Biosciences and his PhD student Josh Quick.

In one study, the spread of Zika across South America after its initial arrival is charted:
Establishment and cryptic transmission of Zika virus in Brazil and the Americas

In the second, its wildfire-like spread to Florida is described:
Genomic epidemiology reveals multiple introductions of Zika virus into the United States
