The Department of Finance at Birmingham Business School emerged from Department of Accounting and Finance, which contributed to sustaining the high reputation for scholarship in commerce related disciplines since the University’s foundation in 1900.
Research in the Department is centred around the Corporate Finance Research Group and the Financial Resilience Research Cluster.
The Corporate Finance Research Group was founded in January 1996 and the mainstream research areas of the group include corporate financial decisions of public and private firms.
The Financial Resilience Research Cluster was founded in January 2013.
At undergraduate level the Department contributes to the long established Accounting and Finance BSc degree and a recently launched, innovative BSc Accountancy degree, partnering with KPMG and the ICAS.
At postgraduate level, the Department provides one-year full-time programmes leading to:
Members of the Department also contribute to our executive MBA programmes, in Birmingham and overseas. The Department also provides research degrees leading to a PhD qualification on both full-time and part-time bases.

I joined the faculty and Department of Accounting and Finance in June 2011.
Prior to this I was on the faculty of Lancaster University Management School in the Department of Accounting and Finance. My responsibilities at LUMS included the role of Deputy Director of Masters Programmes in Accounting and Finance.
