Simon Harper was Birmingham Royal Ballet's Media and Public Relations Manager until December 2013. He's worked with the UK's leading touring classical ballet company since 2007 and in the dance and theatre industry for over 27 years.
After 6 fantastic years working in Birmingham Royal Ballet’s press office Simon left the Company at the end of 2013 to pursue a freelance career in arts PR. Mainly focusing on dance, Simon hopes to continue to promote the ever-growing dance scene across the Midlands.
His first client is the International Dance Festival Birmingham 2014.
Born in Birmingham and trained in theatre studies at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts and in classical dance at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London, Simon worked as a freelance dancer and performer in many West End and national touring productions including Chicago the Musical, Grease, Me and My Girl, 42nd Street, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Gypsy.
Following an 18 year career in dance performance, Simon's professional development continued with press and public relation roles at Sadler’s Wells in London (one of the world's leading dance theatres actively receiving and producing dance) and Birmingham City Council’s Gallery 37 programme (a creative learning initiative for young people not normally exposed to the arts).
Simon graduated from University of Birmingham a Master of Philosophy in Education Studies in December 2012. A professional and personal interest in Career Professional Development of retiring dancers, second life chances and career transitions resulted in a dissertation titled 'A critical comparative study of career transition policy, practice and experiences for ballet company dancers and musical theatre independent dancers'.
