Engineering Industrial Sponsorship Programme (RESPECT)

Engineering is all about applying solutions to diverse problems. Reinforcing the teaching you’ll receive throughout your studies at Birmingham, work experience gives you the opportunity to apply your learning to real-life problems. We’ve teamed up with some of the best names in engineering to bring you an opportunity for sponsorship to support your studies.

What is RESPECT?

RESPECT is an initiative for UK Civil Engineering undergraduate students and builds on our strong links with industry to provide a symbiotic relationship between training, education and employment.

Sponsorship by a company while you study at Birmingham means you can take advantage of:

  • a bursary of £1500 per year of study to help with the cost of student life
  • guaranteed work experience during your summer vacations giving you valuable industrial work experience
  • potential for guaranteed employment with your sponsor, upon graduation
  • a strong CV, right from the end of your studies, giving you a head start in your career. For the company, it means access to bright, motivated engineers who display teamworking, initiative and commitment to their engineering career.

Who might be sponsoring me?

Our sponsoring companies are always changing but here’s an idea of who’s been sponsoring our students in recent years. We’re privileged to work with some of the best names across Civil Engineering, representing industries such as:

  • civil engineering contractors and consultants
  • engineering consultants
  • public utilities and agencies

How can I get involved?

The RESPECT programme is open to UK undergraduate students entering Civil Engineering programmes from Level 1. Applications for the RESPECT programme open during the spring term and candidates will be selected on the basis of interviews, achievements and academic results during the first academic year.

Furthermore, if you are awarded with an engineering scholarship you’re still eligible to apply for sponsorship.
