Initial Teacher Training

The Initial Teacher Education Courses, recently rated as 'outstanding' by OFSTED, are extremely well regarded at local and national level. They do not only offer teacher training in Primary or Secondary Education but also offer the equivalent of 120 credits at master’s level, making them the first of their kind in the country. All these programmes lead to Qualified teacher Status (QTS) and are offered in partnership with local schools. They combine all the practical advantages of school-based work with the experience and expertise of a team of University staff who specialise in initial teacher training. On satisfactory completion of their teacher training course and a successful induction year in school, student teachers may return to complete a 60-credit dissertation part-time and gain an MA in Teaching Studies.
