Professor Mike McLinden, Director of Education and Co-Director of VICTAR was granted Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA) in June 2013. This is the highest of the four levels of fellowship awarded by the HEA and he is one of only 38 individuals in the UK at present who has achieved the prestigious Principal Fellowship (PFHEA) status. It is also the first time the Principal Fellowship has been awarded within the University of Birmingham.

Principal Fellowships are awarded to higher education colleagues who have demonstrated a sustained and effective record of impact at a strategic level in relation to learning and teaching (HEA)

The HEA Fellowship scheme is based around the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) which supports the development of teaching and/or learning staff support staff in higher education institutions.
